Destination: Ittoqqortoormiit, Greenland

In our quest to find the most remote and interesting places on earth, we came across Ittoqqortoormiit, Greenland with a population under 500.

From Wikipedia:

Ittoqqortoormiit was founded in 1925 by Ejnar Mikkelsen and some 80 Inuit settlers (70 persons from Tasiilaq and four families from western Greenland). They were brought on the ship Gustav Holm and settled 400 km south of the last known Inuit settlement in northeastern Greenland

The houses in this small town are literally picture perfect.

Getting to Ittoqqortoormiit is not exactly easy. According to East Greenland’s website you can only get there by air. All three airlines listed there are Icelandic airlines, however after a few searches we couldn’t find a single flight (not even from Greenland’s capital, Nuuk). According to Wikipedia, ” it is served by Ittoqqortoormiit Heliport, with Air Greenland helicopters shuttling passengers between the settlement and Nerlerit Inaat Airport, the latter also reachable by boat for a few months a year”… Good luck.
